ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Our task was to explain visually the different behavior of the 5 elevator cars, in a way that was effective, clear (across languages and cultures) and non-intrusive. In fact, to the degree that the opposite was possible, the design should help integrate the lobbies to the rest of the building.

We knew that we needed to start with a visual language that was universal, so we looked into calendars, mobile apps and subway lines for reference – all systems of visual information that are understood by everyone. This is an example of extrapolating from a reference that is universal, and then applying it to a different purpose: a classic subway line map, that shows the floor stops of each particular elevator car.
